Catherine Rushing Steinwinder ("Katie") was born in Enterprise, Alabama and raised in Elba, Alabama. Katie attended Troy State University, where she graduated summa cum laude, majoring in political science and history and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi. Following graduation from college, Katie worked for Governor Jim Folsom, Jr. in the Governor's Press Office. She also took a leave of absence from the Governor's Office and worked for Gov. Folsom's 1994 gubernatorial campaign.
In 1995, Katie began law school at the University of Alabama School of Law, graduating in December 1997. While in law school, Katie received the Dorbin Association scholarship and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. Following law school graduation, she earned Series 7 and Series 63 financial licenses and worked in the investment banking field.
In 2000, Katie served as law clerk to the Hon. William A. Shashy, 15th Judicial Circuit. In 2001, she went to work with the Birmingham, Alabama law firm, Starnes & Atchison. In 2005, Katie returned to Montgomery and has been in practice since, with a primary focus on family law issues, including appellate practice.
In July 2008, Lt. Gov. Folsom appointed Katie to the Alabama Family Law Task Force, charged with the task of reviewing and revising, if necessary, Alabama laws regarding child custody, visitation, child support, alimony and other issues relevant to rearing children in Alabama.
Katie is a member of the Alabama State Bar and the Montgomery County Bar Association and is an active member of the Junior League of Montgomery
Jamie Guy Ratliff ("Jamie") was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. Jamie attended Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies and a minor in Law Enforcement and Sociology in 1997. Upon graduation, Jamie returned to the Montgomery area where she worked as a paralegal for approximately seven years prior to attending law school.
In the fall of 2004, Jamie decided to pursue a long time goal and entered the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. While in law school, Jamie was elected to and served on the Honor Court for three years, was appointed by the faculty to the Clinical Studies Committee as a student representative, served as a Research Assistant and was involved in various clubs and organizations. In June 2007, Jamie was a member of the first graduating class from Thomas Goode Jones School of Law following its accreditation from the American Bar Association.
Since admission to the Alabama State Bar in 2007, Jamie's practice has focused primarily on issues affecting families, including appellate practice.
Jamie resides in Montgomery with her two children. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar and the Montgomery County Bar Association. She is in the provisional class of the Junior League of Montgomery and is involved in various legal, social and charitable organizations.
